Having worked within businesses for many years, and with a passion for well-being at work, I can see a clear benefit for offering Reiki within the workplace as part of an integrated well-being strategy, or as one-off day for employees.
What is Reiki healing?
Reiki (pronounced Rey-kee) is a beautifully gentle and safe form of energy healing, which originated in Japan in the 1800s. Reiki literally translates as ‘Rei’ meaning universal and ‘Ki’ meaning life force/energy.
Reiki can facilitate healing, rebalance energy and restore natural harmony within our body, mind and soul. It can also promote a state of relaxation, a place where healing can begin, where blockages are removed to promote greater creativity and productivity.
How a treatment works
Reiki treatments are non-invasive, and people lie fully clothed on the professional Reiki bed I bring with me, which I sanitise in between each client, or people can be seated in a chair if that is more comfortable.
I need a safe, quiet space to work from where the person can sit or lie for the duration of the session without being disturbed and I need sufficient space to accommodate at 6ft long x 3ft wide Reiki bed.
In the workplace, I usually run shorter 30-minute sessions and so it works well for someone to have a treatment in a break or at lunchtime, then they are able to return to their work. The duration of the sessions are completely flexible to suit your organisation.
During the treatment, I gently move my hands just over the client’s body, or hands on with a light touch, to promote relaxation and a sense of calm.
Reiki healing works beautifully as a stand-alone treatment or it is a perfect complementary therapy, which works well alongside both conventional or holistic treatments.
Clients will be asked to complete a short consent form before I arrive, and in certain circumstances, I ask them to seek medical agreement prior to me commencing a Reiki treatment.

Reiki within the workplace
When people feel well, they are less likely to be absent from work. I think it’s important to recognise the whole individual and so addressing people’s well-being on an holistic level will allow people to bring the best versions of themselves to work. When at work, people are more likely to be able to focus and be more productive.
Ultimately, Reiki will bring something different for each individual. For some people, Reiki may be a relaxing nice to have experience where they return to their workplace feeling energetically restored, or relaxed if that is what they need. For others, it can support healing and improving an existing health condition like anxiety, depression, or a physical illness and this can be great for the improvement of their health working alongside any interventions they may be receiving from their medical professionals.
It should be noted that Reiki healers are not medical professionals. No diagnosis can be made through Reiki and it does not replace any medical care. If there are medical issues presented, I recommended that professional medical advice and guidance is sought.
